Responsibilities and Qualifications

Surgical technicians assist surgeons and other medical professionals in hospital operating rooms and similar environments. Chiefly, they prepare patients, rooms and equipment for pending surgical procedures.Will perform all work with accord to the mission, vision, and values of Mercy Health Systems.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.

Certifications:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of hire.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.

  • Certified Surgery Tech (CST) certification preferred.

Experience

  • Greater than one year of experience working full-time as a Surgical Technician in a hospital setting.

  • Surgical Technology preparation and/or experience in operating room technique preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of patient services.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations.

  • Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude.

  • Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information.

  • Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
